Why We Save the Good Things for Later
Share
Almost every home has them.
The good plates, the beautiful bowls, the hand-painted serving platter, the tea set reserved for ‘special occasions’ and so on…
Nobody knows exactly when these special occasions are scheduled to occur. But apparently Tuesday doesn't qualify. Neither does Wednesday. Or most of the year, for that matter.
So, the beautiful things wait. Safely tucked away behind every day crockery that works very hard for a living.
It's funny when you think about it. We fall in love with something. We bring it home. We admire it. And then we decide it is far too nice and beautiful to use regularly. Somewhere along the way, ‘saving it starts feeling more important than enjoying it.
Perhaps we are a little afraid of chipping it or breaking it or even ruining it. Or maybe we simply like knowing it's there.
Waiting.
Perfect.
However, nobody is protecting it from damage. Everybody is protecting it from ‘life’.
But the funny thing about beautiful things is that they become even more beautiful when they are part of a life.
A serving bowl that has appeared at countless family dinners….a tea set that has witnessed long conversations….a platter with tiny marks that remind you it was actually used and loved.
Those aren't flaws. They are evidence that the piece fulfilled its purpose.
Because the best stories rarely happen on special occasions. They happen on ordinary evenings…over everyday meals...on random Sundays and on days that weren't important until they became memories.
And perhaps that's why, at Amber Hues, we believe beautiful things should be used every day…..not saved for someday.
Used today.
Because someday has a habit of arriving quietly disguised as an ordinary day.
