No, Tea Does Not Taste the Same in Every Cup
Share
There seems to be an unwritten rule in most homes. No matter how many cups live in the cabinet, only one or two are considered suitable for morning tea. The rest exist largely for guests, special occasions, or reasons nobody can fully explain.
Ours are two oversized, rounded cups that seem to believe tea is a serious affair. One has a tiny uneven rim. The other behaves like an uncooperative guest in the dishwasher stand. Neither is particularly elegant. Both are absolutely essential.
Every morning, without fail, the same conversation unfolds.
"Did you take my cup?"
"No, but you took mine yesterday."
"No no, mine is the fatter one."
At this point, the cups know more about our mornings than most family members do. They've witnessed sleepy silences, hurried weekdays, newspaper headlines, and those half-awake conversations where nobody is quite ready to face the world before the first sip.
The tea, of course, is exactly the same. The same leaves…the same milk…..the same kitchen.
And yet somehow, it isn't.
Tea in any other cup feels mildly disappointing. Not enough to ruin the morning but just enough to make you notice. Funny how certain objects quietly stop being objects. Without any discussion or ceremony, they become part of the routine. Part of the comfort. Part of home.
And perhaps that's what we find ourselves drawn to at Amber Hues. Not simply beautiful things, but the ones that slowly gather meaning over time.
The ones that begin as a purchase, become a favourite, and one day earn a permanent place in the place we call home.
