The Wall Piece Everyone Had an Opinion About

A strange thing happens when a new wall piece arrives home. Suddenly everybody claims to be an interior designer.

The wall piece has barely come out of the packaging and the opinions begin.

"Too colourful."

"No, that's the whole point."

"It should go in the living room."

"Definitely not the living room."

"Maybe above the console."

"A little left."

"No, your other left."

For the next twenty minutes, family members stand around studying walls with surprising seriousness. Suggestions are offered.

Rejected.

Reconsidered.

Then offered again.

Eventually, a spot is chosen. The wall piece goes up. Everybody steps back but nobody is completely convinced. And somehow, that's usually how you know the decision is final.

A few weeks later, something rather lovely happens. The discussions stop. Nobody talks about the wall piece anymore. It simply becomes part of the home.

It watches festival decorations appear and disappear. It sits quietly through family dinners, long phone calls, hurried mornings, and lazy Sundays. Guests notice it but family members stop noticing it.

And perhaps that's the greatest compliment a home can give to the piece.

Because the things that truly belong are rarely the ones demanding attention all the time. They are the ones that quietly settle in and become part of everyday life. Before you know it, you can no longer imagine that space without them.
